Rory O'Brien is a tactical human performance specialist with graduate degrees in exercise science and education. He holds specialized certifications in strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports injuries, recovery, and First Aid/CPR instruction. Currently, Rory works supporting law enforcement recruit training in a statewide law enforcement academy. His primary role centers on strength and conditioning, where he supports physical readiness, movement quality, and nutrition education for law enforcement recruits. He also serves as a Survival Skills Instructor, supporting defensive tactics and tactical medicine instruction, while contributing to broader academy coursework in areas such as emotional intelligence, ethics, resiliency, and professional decision-making.
His approach blends physical readiness, recovery science, nutrition education, defensive tactics, cognitive performance, resilience, tactical medicine, and long-term health into practical systems designed for public-safety professionals. With experience as an educator, coach, curriculum developer, and academy instructor, Rory’s approach emphasizes not only what works scientifically, but what can actually be taught, implemented, and sustained in real public-safety environments.
Rory founded Guardian Human Performance Systems to help agencies build human performance systems that support the whole professional — so personnel can serve well, recover well, and retire well.
